ISLAMABAD: Since clashes erupted between police and PTI supporters in the twin cities, the Federal Information and Interior Ministers have not been seen on any news channel defending the government.
Credible sources said that the Federal Minister for Information Senator Pervez Rashid was under severe pressure after a news article was published in an English newspaper. Therefore, he has not being seen on any private TV channels to defend the government, which is very unusual as Pervez Rasheed is normally the first to spring to his party’s defence, if often unconvincingly.
PTI and Sheikh Rasheed’s party activists were roughed up and tear gas shells were used by local police in Islamabad and Rawalpindi against the will of the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. “Orders of use of power and crackdown against PTI’s workers were directly issued from PM secretariat to IG police Islamabad and Interior Minister has expressed his severe annoyance over it,” sources said, maintaining that federal police have divided into two factions.
One faction is led by IG Police Islamabad, who is directly receiving directions from the PM secretariat, while the other is headed by Interior Minister and SP operation Sajid Kiyani, who had been the staff officer of the interior minister in the past. He is against the use of power.
The media cell of the PM House is no longer working under the toxic Daniyal Aziz and Khawaja Saad Rafiq has been given responsibilities to hold press conferences for the government’s defence.
